This activity goes beyond simple construction! Our Minibeast Hotel Team Build is thoughtfully designed to engage your team in collaborative and creative work, all driven by a shared purpose: to craft safe havens for the tiny creatures that play a crucial role in our ecosystem. Together, you will construct unique “hotels” using sustainable materials, providing essential shelter for insects and other invertebrates. This offers a fantastic opportunity to step away from the office environment, get creative with your hands, and collectively make a tangible positive impact.
Indeed, by building a bug hotel, your team directly supports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and actively boosts biodiversity. This provides vital shelter for insects and other minibeasts to thrive and reproduce, enhancing your positive image.
To start, we will have an Introduction where we welcome participants and introduce the activity. This will include a brief presentation highlighting the ecological importance of minibeasts and the concept behind a minibeast hotel. We will also emphasize the activity’s contribution to CSR and biodiversity. Following this, participants will be divided into teams of 4-5.
Next, during the Design & Planning phase, teams will discuss and plan the design of their minibeast hotel. We will provide information sheets and inspiring examples. Each team will receive recycled pallet sections, a variety of natural, eco-friendly, and recycled materials (such as dead wood, hollow stems, stones, straw, dry leaves, loose bark, corrugated cardboard, and dry sticks), along with necessary tools like gloves, hand saws, scissors, and twine.
Subsequently, the Construction phase will see teams collaboratively building their minibeast hotels. Our facilitators will be on hand to provide guidance and assistance as needed, encouraging both creativity and problem-solving.
Following construction, during Habitat Creation, teams will place their completed minibeast hotels in suitable locations. If at the woodland venue, this will involve considering the specific needs of different minibeasts (e.g., sun versus shade, damp versus dry). If at the hotel, teams will establish a suitable area on the hotel grounds. Optionally, teams can also plant nectar-rich plants around the hotels to provide a food source for pollinators.
Finally, we will have a Wrap-up & Reflection session where teams present their minibeast hotels and explain their design choices. We will then discuss the overall importance of the activity and its environmental impact. We will also capture the moment with photos of the completed minibeast hotels and the teams.
Target Audience: This activity is ideal for groups of 20 or more participants.
